Great leaders grow other leaders.

Accessible by design. Generous in practice.

My heart has always been to see the people around me grow into their potential.

I love spending time with people who want to make a difference — in their teams, their organisations and the world around them.

I believe part of my life’s work is to grow leaders at every stage of their journey — and to help them become the kind of leaders who multiply that growth in others.

That’s the legacy I want to leave.

But good coaching can be difficult to access.

Experienced leadership and executive coaching has traditionally been built around corporate development budgets.

For senior executives whose organisation is funding their development, that model can work well.

But there are also emerging leaders, experienced managers, small-business leaders and people simply wanting to invest in themselves who may not have a large organisation picking up the bill.

I don’t think access to good coaching should depend entirely on the size of your employer’s development budget.

Coach James has been deliberately designed to stay simple.

No large office.
No sales team.
No layers of account management.
No unnecessary corporate infrastructure.

Technology takes care of much of the routine administration so that I can spend more of my time doing the work you actually came for.

So I built Coach James differently.

Less overhead. More coaching.

Accessible by design.

I want experienced executive and leadership coaching to remain within reach of people who are serious about growing — whether their organisation is paying or they are investing in themselves.

That doesn’t mean trying to be the cheapest coach available.

It means charging fairly, running the business responsibly and putting as much of your investment as possible into the coaching itself.

Generous in practice.

Coaching is my work. My time has value, the systems that support it have costs, and the business needs to be sustainable. But I don’t want the relationship to feel transactional.

I want the people I coach to feel generously served — through the attention I give them, the resources I share, the thinking that continues beyond our conversations and the support that surrounds the formal sessions.

Generosity doesn’t mean pretending my time has no value. It means doing my best to make sure yours does.

Accessibility only works if it can last.

Coach James is priced to cover the real cost of coaching well, keep the systems behind it reliable, and allow me to keep sharpening my own practice.

Sustainability isn’t about extracting the most from each client. It’s about building a business that can keep serving people well for the long haul.

Sustainable by intention.

James helped me get to the ‘why’ behind my leadership behaviours — which made the change genuinely stick.

Beyond the session

The real value is
what happens next.

Whether someone is leading a team or preparing for their first interview, development matters most when it changes what happens next.

For leaders, that might mean clearer judgement and stronger conversations. For students, it might mean recognising their strengths and communicating what they have to offer.

Different settings. The same aim: turn learning into meaningful action.

Clarity Recognise · Understand · Focus
Confidence Practise · Reflect · Strengthen
Action Communicate · Decide · Contribute

When learning becomes action, the impact goes further.

Coaching questions

NZD pricing, online delivery, confidentiality, discovery calls and what working together looks like.

Do you coach clients throughout New Zealand?

Yes. I’m based in Australia and work with clients throughout New Zealand online via Google Meet. Whether you’re in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch or elsewhere, you can access the same private, one-to-one coaching experience without needing to travel.

Are the prices on this website in New Zealand dollars?

Yes. Prices shown on the Coach James New Zealand website are in New Zealand dollars (NZD). Any programme commitment, instalment schedule or one-off session fee will be shown before you confirm your purchase.

Can I book one session instead of committing to a programme?

Yes. A single session can be a practical place to start. Current options include Leadership Coaching at $249, Career Coaching at $179 and Interview Coaching at $89. These are NZD prices; you can explore the full details and book on the relevant service page.

Can faith be part of my leadership coaching?

Absolutely, if that’s important to you. Christian Leadership Coaching and Christian Executive Coaching create space to consider your faith and values alongside the real decisions, responsibilities and challenges of leadership. There is no requirement to separate the two.

Why does executive coaching vary so much in price?

There isn’t one standard model for executive coaching. Some services are built primarily for large organisations and include account management, reporting, consulting infrastructure, offices and other overheads around the coaching itself. Others are smaller and more direct. The price can also reflect the coach’s experience, the length of the engagement and the level of support provided between sessions.

Why is Coach James priced differently from some executive coaches?

Coach James is deliberately built to run lean. You work directly with me, technology handles much of the routine administration, and I avoid unnecessary overheads that would ultimately need to be passed on to you. My aim isn’t to make coaching more affordable by reducing its quality. It’s to remove the things that can drive the cost out of reach, while building a practice that is accessible, generous and sustainable.

Can my employer pay for my coaching?

Yes. Organisations often support coaching as part of leadership development, professional development or succession planning. If your New Zealand employer is sponsoring the engagement, I’m happy to work with you on the practical arrangements and any appropriate invoicing requirements.

Can I pay for coaching myself?

Yes — and Coach James has been designed with self-funded leaders in mind. I don’t believe access to experienced leadership coaching should depend entirely on whether your organisation has a large development budget. If investing in your own growth is important to you, you’re very welcome here.

Are payment plans available?

Yes. Some multi-month coaching programmes are billed monthly across the engagement, while individual sessions and selected packages are paid for when booking. The total investment, payment schedule and commitment are clearly displayed before you proceed.

Is the discovery call really free?

Yes. The discovery call is genuinely free and there is no obligation to continue. It gives us a chance to talk about where you are, what you would like to change or achieve, and whether coaching could be useful.

Will you try to sell me coaching during the discovery call?

No hard sell. I’ll listen, ask some questions and help you think about what might be useful. If I believe I can help, I’ll explain what working together could look like. If I don’t think I’m the right person for you, I’ll tell you that too. The purpose of the call is to work out whether there is a good fit — not to pressure you into buying something.

Is what I talk about in coaching confidential?

Yes. Coaching needs to be a place where you can think out loud, test ideas, admit when you don’t know and talk honestly about what’s really happening. What we discuss stays between us, subject to the limits set out in the coaching agreement and any legal or safety obligations. If your employer is paying for the coaching, we’ll agree upfront what — if anything — is shared with them. Funding the coaching doesn’t mean they get a transcript of the conversation.

What actually happens in a coaching session?

You don’t need to arrive with a polished agenda or the perfect question. We’ll start with what’s happening for you right now and work out what matters most. I’ll listen, ask questions, challenge your thinking when it’s useful and help you see the situation from perspectives that can be difficult to find when you’re standing in the middle of it. The goal isn’t simply to have a good conversation. It’s to leave with greater clarity about what you want to do next.

Is coaching only for leaders who are struggling?

Not at all. Some people come to coaching because something isn’t working. Others come because things are working and they know they’re capable of more. Athletes don’t wait until they’re performing badly before working with a coach, and leadership doesn’t need to be any different. Coaching can help when you’re stuck, but it can also help when you’re growing, stepping into something new or simply wanting to become more intentional about the way you lead.

Why coaching programs over months, not weeks?

Because insight can happen in an hour, but growth usually takes longer. Time between sessions gives us room to think, act, reflect and adjust. You can try something, discover what works, bring what doesn’t back into the conversation and keep building from there. That is why I describe it as a coaching relationship rather than a series of disconnected appointments.

How do I know if you’re the right coach for me?

You should feel comfortable enough with your coach to be honest — but not so comfortable that you’re never challenged. Experience and qualifications matter, but so does fit. That’s one of the reasons the discovery call exists. It gives us both an opportunity to decide whether working together makes sense. You’re choosing me just as much as I’m deciding whether I genuinely believe I can help.

What results should I expect from coaching?

I’m wary of promising a promotion, a salary increase or a particular business result simply because you hired a coach. You still have to do the work, and leadership rarely gives us outcomes we can completely control. What I can offer is a structured space to think more clearly, understand yourself better, challenge assumptions, make deliberate choices and turn insight into action. My aim is that you finish coaching better equipped to lead without needing me beside you forever.

Will I need a coach forever?

No — and that shouldn’t be the goal.

Good coaching isn’t about creating dependence. It’s about helping you build the clarity, confidence and self-awareness to navigate challenges for yourself.

There may be seasons in your career or leadership where having a coach alongside you is particularly valuable — a new role, a difficult decision, a period of growth or change — and other seasons where you’re perfectly capable of carrying on without one.

My aim is to help you get to the point where you don’t need me. And if, somewhere down the track, another challenge comes along and you’d value someone in your corner again, I’ll be here.
